Waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) needs to be processed properly if marketable end products are to be obtained. This means crushing the stock material into a useful size and recovering the metals contained in it.

There is a continuing need to free the plastic fraction of light matter such as wood, dust and insulating materials in order to ensure optimal separation of the plastic. In addition to brominated plastics (known as flame retarders), it is also important to separate polystyrene fractions and polyolefins as fully as possible.
